Okay, so this weekend I had intended to write an entry about all of the slimy and questionable abuses of the majority that the current Red regime is guilty of, and then this happens.
Where does it end? When do these people feel like they need to stop and leave us alone to live our lives according to our own beliefs and decision making processes. Not to mention that "Republicans" used to support states rights and the separation of powers. So what's happened to dissolve all of that? Why the sudden change in the way our legislative and judicial branches interact?
Because folks, this is a Christian Jihad. These people want to draft legislation, nominate judges, and enforce laws that support their narrow view of how you should live and die. Culture of life my ass. How about the newspapers ending their censorship and publishing photos of all of the dead babies caused by collateral damage during the Iraq war that all these "Christian soldiers" in Congress supported. The hypocrisy is so thick that if the citizens of this country can't see that this is the beginning of the end of the way our democracy has functioned for over 200 years, then they don't deserve the liberties that true Americans fought and died to protect.
Excuse the force and tenor of my words, but it is a dangerous time for us all in this country. The day when our liberties can be curtailed because the Reds feel they've found a great campaign issue, is the day that the thinly veiled premise that these people serve us, gets torn asunder because they feel they now feel they've established a strangle-hold on our Democracy.
This is not a banana Republic, this is not a rubberstamp form of democracy, this is not a one party state, this used to be the "United" "States" of America. Between their plans to rid themselves of filibuster blocks and their fervent support to re-sign the "Patriot" Act permanently into law, we are at risk of losing all hope of having a balanced system.
Make no mistake, they want a one party system, they want to allow corporations and Churches to decide what's good for your health and well being, they want to appoint judges to create what they think is a Christian paradise. They don't want anyone to get in their way. They are abusing our system, distorting it's liberties, to create a more controlled an enslaved public.
Think I'm crazy? So would I if I had read this five years ago. Take what you want from this, but do me the favor of doing some reading on these issues. I believe any thinking person will find some disturbing trends, no matter what your beliefs are.
UPDATE- After some further reading on this subject I've found this little tidbit (the actual wording of the law is here for review) that shows just how full of shit George W Bush is, and how dispassionate the new brand of "conseravtives" are. As long as you're not poor, you deserve life.

We woke up this morning to the radio telling us about the Schiavo deal. A very foul wake up indeed. The kind that makes you sick to the stomach and fuming mad. A campaign issue indeed. Apparently one of the Congressmen from Florida is up for re-election and his comrades thought it would be good for him to help. I did like how the Democratic Congressfolks shouted that it was none of their business and they should not voting on such an issue. They definitely had that right. Culture of life is bullshit. I have a semi-conservative friend who is pro-life. He said his pro-life extends to war as well and thinks war is wrong. I think he is very correct in his ethics. I could not possibly accuse him of being hypocritical, however, the Bush administration’s "hypocrisy is so thick" it is thoroughly nauseating.
I'm all for a culture of life. I want a culture that supports all of us as individuals from the moment we are born (to mothers who want us) to the day we die. That means affordable housing for individuals and families in need. That means bigger tax breaks for families and more public resources devoted to the support of two-career families. That means affordable daycares, preschools, and excellent public schools for all. That means affordable health care, so that people can actually live their lives to their healthiest and fullest extent. These measures would do a lot more to celebrate the miracle of creation than the cynical exploitation of a cruelly brain-damaged woman. Maybe if those well-meaning protesters with the red tape over their mouths would take off their gags and start talking to their representatives about matters of true social justice, we'd all be enjoying a happier culture of life.
I want to believe that everyone surrounding this case is operating from a place of authentic concern and integrity, but the fact that a memo was passed around our Senate last week outlining the political opportunities involved in the Schiavo case makes even that impossible. Echoing what has only been said here before - it is not difficult to view in disgust, and, yes, even some disbelief, the latest from our President and his allies. The hypocrisy of our times leaves me in a constant state of queasiness. Quality of Life either applies to everyone or no one and, sadly, right now it increasingly applies to the rich, the white and the male as is overwhelmingly represented by the faces of those who hold political office in our country. Many of these individuals apparently know no bounds when it comes to finding new and exploitative ways to increase their appeal and power.
